Supervision in York / North Yorkshire
I am a BACP Specialised Accredited Supervisor of Individuals and have been offering supervision since 2007.
From my own experience, I understand how isolating working as a counsellor or caring professional can sometimes feel. Supervision plays a vital role in reducing that sense of isolation and supporting reflective, ethical practice.
My Approach to Supervision
I would describe my approach as integrative humanistic. The importance I place on a solid therapeutic relationship in my counselling work carries through into my role as a supervisor.
The Rogerian core conditions form the foundation of my supervision practice. I also draw on a range of other approaches — including Psychodynamic theory, Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, and Creative Work — depending on the needs of the supervisee and their clients.
As an EMDR Europe accredited practitioner I am also able to offer supervision for therapists who integrate EMDR into their work.
I am mindful of the power dynamics that can exist in supervision and aim to keep the balance as even as possible.
Supporting Your Development
My intention is to empower supervisees to feel confident and capable in their client work, taking into account developmental stage and individual needs. I aim to provide a balance of support and challenge, creating a safe and reflective space where:
Difficulties can be openly explored
Achievements and good practice are acknowledged and celebrated
New perspectives and insights can develop
I believe supervision should not only be a place to examine challenges but also a space to recognise the work you are proud of.
Tailored to Each Supervisee
I take time to understand each supervisee’s individual needs and preferences, including:
Their hopes and concerns about supervision
Approaches and models they are drawn to
Previous supervision experiences and what has or hasn’t worked for them
My aim is to offer supervision that is supportive, collaborative, and empowering — enabling supervisees to grow in confidence and fulfil their potential while keeping the client’s best interests at heart.
I believe it is possible to work holistically while always keeping the client’s best interests at the centre. I do not expect supervisees to leave their personal selves at the door, as I believe this can sometimes create barriers to effective work. Instead, supervision is a space where the whole self can be acknowledged in service of professional growth.
In addition, I can also provide supervision to professionals outside of counselling who work within the caring professions, offering support, reflection, and guidance tailored to their specific roles.
